I’m a 74-years old widow with cancer in my brain.  I have never asked for financial help, instead, I’ve always worked to pay my own bills. I didn’t actually stop work until I was 71-years old.

I became ill at the end of September of 2023. I discovered I have brain cancer at that time.  I eventually spent 5 weeks in the hospital after I was diagnosed.  I had a bad reaction to the chemo and almost damaged my kidneys.  Now I take two pills per day that are suppose to stop the cancer from growing.

I use to live in Trumbull County Ohio with my husband. He passed away from cancer in 2015 and I moved back to Kentucky to be close to my family a year after his death.  I worked in the gift shop at a local Cracker Barrel restaurant. I also baby sat with two great nieces at no charge to my niece.  Then I brought my niece and her three children to my apartment so they could have a break in a sad life.  They lived 130 miles from me.  Normally they would stay a minimum of 2 weeks.  Then my niece died from a heart problem in 2020 and since then her children have come to stay all summer with me.  I went a little silly and charged almost $3,000 in clothes for her kids.  I get calls from her children always wanting to know if they can come live with me.

I’ve gone a little nuts with my great-nieces and my great-nephew but I wouldn’t have done anything differently.  They need to grow up knowing they are loved.
