Angela is teaming up with her sister and seeking donations for key pieces of medical equipment that are not covered by insurance. They are pictured and listed in priority order.

1. Companion Q mobility device which is a motor that attaches to the front of a manual wheelchair which is manufactured and imported from Cheelcare based in Canada. A durable medical equipment (DME) vendor authorized for Cheelcare products will handle the billing and work with Cheelcare to place the order for the device. This is where the money ends up.

2. Octane FX is the name of the manual rigid-framed AND collapsible wheelchair made of titanium for her active needs which is manufactured by RGK. A durable medical equipment (DME) vendor authorized for RGK products will order the customized wheelchair and this is where the money ends up.

3. Auxiliary components for each  (replacement brakes, tires, parts, basket, hands-free phone mount, cover, etc). See the details explained in number 1 & 2.

4. Mobility Scooter Insurance in the event of theft or damage to the medical equipment. Angela has had wheelchairs stolen from her property or gone missing as a result of “mix ups” with airlines or charter bus companies.

Angela raises an energetic child as a single parent while living with moderate cerebral palsy, and in 2023 was finally diagnosed with a severe and rare connective tissue disorder which makes achieving daily tasks such as coordinating and utilizing transportation for herself and her child seem like climbing a mountain every day. These pieces of medical equipment would make a world of difference to meet daily needs and to fulfill the needs of both herself and her child.

With it, it empowers her to safely travel to/from work within a 5-mile radius and be able to work longer hours when her child is at school. Right now, she is limited with weekly work hours because 2-3 hours each day is spent using unreliable wheelchair transportation and public transportation that often leaves her stranded. It would make it possible for her to travel freely in and throughout the community and broaden the experiences that she and her child can enjoy.

The Companion Q is a detachable motor that goes on the front of a manual wheelchair and the RGK Octane FX is a titantium grade, rigid frame wheechair designed for collapsing to a compact size for standard abd compact vehicle needs.

Without these devices the equipment insurance would provide would only meet 60% of her needs some of the time and fail to alleviate the pain that goes with using less than the best suited medical equipment that insurance dictates. Insurance companies, argh! The wheelchair transportation services are not getting better.

If Angela is able to obtain these mobility devices, they would provide more employment opportunities. Additionally, she would have less physical pain because it would be designed for her body size and optimal postural needs, she can load it into a standard vehicle for when needing to carpool to/from church. She and her child would be 30% less reliant on others to assist us with our mobility needs.

Angela and her child are well-known in multiple communities. For both of their online and physical safety identifying information and details will remain private. We appreciate your role in respecting and practicing these precautions as well. Please DO NOT use her child’s name in publicly visible comments.
