In late March of 2023 I was fortunate enough to receive a kidney transplant. The transplant went well but the transplant hospital was 350 miles from home and travel, food and lodging expenses were considerable. I spent 40 days in the transplant city…20 in the hospital and 20 in a short term apt building that I paid for.  I have to travel 700 miles round trip once a month to the transplant hospital for a routine checkup by my transplant team which is more gas, lodging and food.  My vehicle is reliable and well maintained but it’s already seven years old and I dread the prospect of a breakdown with all the miles I have to put on it for the monthly checkups. In addition I pay around $1100 a month for medications.  The transplant team has me taking eleven different medications daily and just two of them cost $750 a month.  I don’t have prescription insurance and I live on Disability/Social Security.  As I write this my bank balance is $15.  I thought I could manage my finances well enough to deal with things but I was wrong…there have been just too many unexpected expenses. The rising cost of food, gas, car insurance, utilities, property taxes etc is chewing me up and spitting me out.  I live in an older mobile home with a leak in the roof…I had saved enough money to fix the roof but now I’ve spent that money on meds.  I have no family that can provide financial support…my brother has financial woes of his own and my 88 year old mother lives on Social Security just like me.   Any assistance from kind and compassionate donors would be hugely appreciated.
