I have several debilitating autoimmune diseases that have required intensive therapy. As a result of my illness, I was medically retired from the Army in 2015 as a disabled vet. I also served in Afghanistan while in the Army. To manage my illness, I was required to take a plethora of medications, to include injections to suppress my immune system. Over the years, my therapy plan was failing, and I got desperate. I could not get out of bed most days, and working became impossible. In order to get my life back, I had to reach out for cutting edge adult stem cell technology utilizing umbilical cord blood (considered experimental in the U.S. and only available by drug trials). I require this high level of cutting edge treatment because I can’t use my own stem cells. My immune system is dysfunctional, and I require a donor to achieve remission. I have successfully undergone one round of adult stem cell therapy at the Stem Cell Institute in Panama in December of 2018, and I scheduled for my second round in November of 2019. Since my first round of treatment, I have made tremendous gains, but I still have a way to go on my journey of complete healing. As a mother of 4, my family depends on my ability to work, and make ends meet. I can’t imagine spending my life in bed wasting away.
