Our friend, Laurel Mahar, has earned her angel wings caring for her husband, JP over his final years and now it’s her turn for our support.
The love of her life and our good friend and golfing buddy, JP Mahar (James Paul) battled courageously for several years but recently went on to that perfect, unending golf course in the sky. Laurel is heartbroken and we all miss JP very much. He had a great mustache and a sense of humor to match.
JP connected so well with others and made lasting friendships throughout his life. From his childhood friends in Sunnyvale and his classmates at Fremont High all the way through the Naval Academy, Cal Berkeley, and the University of Oregon, JP sustained those friendships faithfully. He brought so many of us together and now we can come together for him in this effort to support Laurel.
As President of our Lake Forest Park Rotary Club from 2019-20, JP led meetings that were fun, as well as productive. Shortly after his tenure as president, JP began the fight to regain his health. During those years of struggle, Laurel worked hard to assure that JP was as comfortable and as happy as possible. Still employed at our neighborhood super market, she balanced her job with time spent as JP’s nurse, confidant and loving wife.
As is the case with these battles, this took a huge toll on Laurel both emotionally and financially. Even with family and friends reaching out during this time of loss, Laurel still needs help paying off the costs of JP’s medical treatments.
