For the past 4 years, I’ve been donating my birthday to a cause and this year is no different! Instead of asking for gifts for my birthday, I am asking friends to donate to my birthday fundraiser to help my friend Reed!
Reed is a 5-year-old boy, who was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called Morquio during the height of the pandemic. His parents are frontline workers in NYC. Reed lacks an enzyme we all naturally have to break down glucose molecules. As a result, his cells do not perform properly and may cause progressive damage throughout his body, including the central nervous system, the spine, heart, bones, joints, eyes, ears, teeth, digestive tract, and respiratory system (affecting his lungs and airways. He receives a synthetic version of this enzyme in his port in a 4-hour infusion once per week, to keep him “at bay”. Still, though, these molecules build up and attack various systems in his body. Since his diagnosis, his hearing has declined due to this, and now he is required to wear hearing aids.
Proceeds from this fundraiser will help pay for Reed’s hearing aids.
At the present time, there is no cure for his disease; however, promising treatments and therapies are just around the corner. My friend Reed is a true fighter, and we need your help to continue the fight.
