My name is Tanya Locks. I’m 47 and have had a big health scare. It is not like me to ask for help so please know this has been a difficult decision to make.
Unexpectedly last week I found out I had a 90% blockage in an artery. We do not have any insurance due to being self-employed.
Why I’m fundraising
Since the end of October, I have been having chest pains. They would come and go, but the pain would stop me in my tracks.
I went to see my doctor a couple of weeks later. He referred me to a cardiologist. On Tuesday, December 12th, I had a positive stress test and echocardiogram. I cannot even explain how scared I was. After struggling through 4 minutes, feeling like I was having a heart attack., they stopped the tests.
The cardiologist scheduled me for a cardiac catheterization for the next morning (less than 12 hours later). The reality of what was happening truly sunk in when I was told to get to the hospital IMMEDIATELY if I had ANY symptoms.
With my nitroglycerin prescription in hand, I headed home to share this bad news with my husband. He went into ‘work mode’ and was taking care of communicating with family and making work arrangements.
During the procedure, it was discovered I had a 90% blockage in an artery. Y’all I was literally a walking time bomb.
Good news! They were able to place a stent in my artery, and I immediately felt the difference! Medical technology is a miracle. I feel like a completely different person.
The impact of your support
Although everything was successful for me medically, the financial burden is what we now have to face. I honestly have no idea how we can even pay for the care. Not having insurance my current bill is at $32,388.48 (see below). That is with a self pay discount of 50% already.
If there’s any way you or someone you know can assist with my bill, it will relieve the additional stress- which my heart literally can not take! My husband, Victor and I will be eternally grateful for any support you can provide.
