My wife came down with cancer a year ago. She has stage 4 RCC and has had both her kidneys removed. We are 69 years old. She is the love of my life and has been a real trooper. She hardly complains. Since the first of 2023, she has been on dialysis and will be for the rest of her life. We do this 3 times a week and go to other doctor and treatment appointments the rest of the time. We celebrate by taking a nap when we don’t have any appointments, which is rare. All this year, we have been in and out of hospitals. We spent our 50th anniversary in the ER. She has bouts of afib and other heart problems. Our healthcare is covered by great insurance. Our gas and other needs are not. She has to have lots of what I would call urgent med supplies that are not covered by scripts. I had to have a ramp built and she is on a walker now so on an upswing. She was a main provider in her business so our income has dropped dramatically. At the moment we have virtually no income and living on credit. I look for a job with hours I can do but I’m the main caregiver. If you have been in financial tights before, you know the feeling of helplessness and stress that my family feels right now.
