Hi my name is Scott Goodin.  I am 41 years of age. I grew up in town of around 35000. I played alot of sports growing up excelling in soccer. I was a B honor roll student.  I am a very likeable and kind person.  When I was a freshman I moved to St Louis to pursue my soccer career. Prior to the move I was traveling 2 hrs one way 2-3 times per week for soccer. On the way back from stl during the week I would finish homework or study for a test. I graduated high-school in 99. I did not go straight into college.  I started working when I was 15 1/2 at a carwash and worked there until the summer of 99. When I left the car wash I took a job as a asst manager at a jiffylube.

My mother had gotten ill physically and then mentally. She had stomach problems and dealt with depression.  Sadly she took her life when she was 39, and I was 19. I received a phone call at about 730 one morning when I was working at Jiffy Lube. She had left a note to me so at the age of 19 I had to inform my dad, brother, my mom’s parents and siblings.  I was a mess and was drinking heavily. I got 3 dwi’s before I was 21. I decided I better move back to Cape so it would be easier getting around.

I coached club soccer for 11 years and excelled at it. I think coaching kept me alive and out of prison.  I have a younger sister that my mother requested that I take care of. I also have a brother that is 2 years older then me. My brother was a country boy and loved tractors or anything with a motor. He was bailing hay one weekend and I had talked to him earlier and asked if he needed any help and he said he did not being he was round bailing that day. I received a call that he was in a tragic farming accident.  He was ducked into the Bailey and it took his life. At this point in my life I was finally doing good and could cope with my mother’s passing. I went back into a non healthy life and was out of control for a couple of yes.

Fast forward a bit and about a year 1/2 ago I took a new job as a body shop manager for a dealership.  It was a tough decision as I worked for a family business started by my mom’s dad. It appeared I made the right decision because everything was going great. When I get involved in a job or coaching I give myself to that task.

I went into work a couple of Saturdays ago to let an out of town customer get their belongings out of a totaled vehicle. I went home after only being at work for a couple of hours because I felt ill. Once I was home I went straight to bed. I got up at about 9 pm to use the rest room and I couldn’t go and was in horrible pain. Barely making it back to my bad and then broke out into a sweat. I text my sister to have her come put ice packs on me to lower my body temperature.  I got back up around 2 and went through the same thing.  I then was taken to the hospital where a cat scan was done and they informed me I had a hole in my colon.  I went straight into emergency surgery. I have a colostomy bag on me and a wound vac hooked to me currently.  Temporary I hope. I spent 7 days in the hospital and once I was released, I got a call saying I had stage 3 Colon cancer. They said that they got it all removed and are having me start chemo once I am healed and get the bag off.

I was in the process of fixing a wrecked car I had bought to give to my sister’s kids to drive. I do not have any outstanding debt. I do have insurance but I know there will be out of pocket expenses. I have no clue how much this will cost me but it is extra stress to an already stressful time. I plan on going back to work as soon as they release me to work. I will start back part time for a couple of weeks as I am still sore and fatigued.

I would like to first ask everyone please pray for me and my family. I have more to do in this life.

If anyone would like to contribute funds, food, transportation to doctor appt would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance, be kind and use your time wisely in life because it is precious.

Thank you

Scott Goodin
