Let us introduce you to Joy Cassano, sister, mother, grandmother, Army Veteran, cousin, friend. Her journey started a year ago when she first heard that word – cancer. Our mother was diagnosed with MDS, which is a type of blood cancer that will turn into Leukemia as it progresses. The only way to cure her is through a bone morrow transplant. The great news is her twin sister, Jane, is her donor.
Through almost 12 months of paying for treatments, ER visits, drives to Duluth and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and multiple bone marrow biopsies, she has finally been scheduled for a bone marrow transplant! But, now we need to figure out how to pay for the extra expenses that accompany this.
Insurance will cover most of the medical bills, however, it doesn’t cover all the other things that will go into having to stay away from home for up to 3 months paying for housing, meals, travel expenses, and all of the other unknowns that accompany this great medical miracle.
Additional expenses will accrue for Jane, while she also takes time away from home and work to donate the cells needed for Joy to beat this cancer. Joy will need 24 hour care and we her daughters, Christina and Valerie, will care for her during this recovery time. We will have to take time away from family and work as well as travel back and forth between home and the Mayo to take care of our mom.
Please help us concentrate on getting Joy healed and living a long happy and healthy life! Please consider also donating blood to your local blood bank, blood donations have literally been saving our mom’s life right now. We will also accept all the prayers and good thoughts anyone has to give.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
Christina and Valerie
