My name is Rebecca, I am Jake’s mother. Jake is 5 years old and is a bright child, loves riding horses and has one of the wildest imaginations. Jake was born with Bethlem Myopathy Bethlem myopathy | About the Disease | GARD (progressive muscular dystrophy) and Congenital Myasthenic Syndome Congenital Myasthenic Syndromes (CMS) – Diseases | Muscular Dystrophy Association. He has been through so much in these last 5 years. Jake has hypotonia (low muscle tone) and does not have the stamina or physical ability for many things in life, specifically sports. Jake was also recently diagnosed with an osteoid osteoma in his left hip which affects his walking and running. Jake started taking horse therapy riding lessons since age 4 and it has been such an amazing path for him. Riding has helped Jake with stamina, strength and above all, he loves it. I still remember the 1st time he got on a horse, he looked as though he was born to ride. What this fund would be for, is to support and help specifically for Jake’s riding lessons, maybe even for a horse someday. Jake has older sisters who are extremely agile and athletes, Jake is not able to participate in any types of sports but, he will find his niche, for now, horses is all he knows and loves. Thank you from my heart. If you would like to read about Jakes rare diseases, I attached the links above. I have also made him an Instagram account (with his permission) to document his adventures in horse riding.
