Hi, My name is Trish Edwards(45) I’m married to Aaron Edwards(42). We have 3 boys and 3 girls combined as a family. We’ve been married for 17 years and have lived a pretty decent middle-class life our entire relationship. Our 17 year old daughter has a scholarship to KU in Lawrence and is also part of the National Honor scholars. She was diagnosed with FSHD, a muscle dystrophy. I lost my job earlier this year working as a phlebotomist at KU for 8 years and was let go for reasons not justified. I took as a sign from God to spend more time at home with my children. So my husband and I agreed for me not to seek employment for a year. My husband & myself bought a dump truck to start a trucking venture. We used every penny of our savings for this truck to start a better life for ourselves and our children. Five months down the road, my husband fell at a dump site on a rock, and his leg swelled twice the size in a matter of 5 hours. He developed a fever and headache that night and the next day same symptoms and getting worse I urged him to go to the doctor. I took him to the ER that night and it changed our lives forever in a blink of an eye. My Husband was diagnosed with CML Leukemia. The doctor’s told my husband that fall saved his life. Our financial status changed over night seems, I went from never asking a soul for a penny to having to rely on every resource in the book. My husband has been hospitalized twice since his diagnosis in October of 2023. This has been by far the most stressful time in my life for me and my family. This happened at the most not so convenient time. My daughter going off to college in the Summer and my 13 y/o is starting high school. This has been the most humblest process my family has gone through. My family would be so grateful, appreciative, humble for any help that is donated to help my Family in this time of need. My biggest wish is payoff my Mortgage and debt so we can focus on taking care of my husband. The stress of a man knowing he can’t care for his family like he once can has taken a toll on my husband’s mental stability. If I can help him focus on his health instead of our well being he would have a greater chance at beating this disease and putting it in remission.
