On September 21, 2021, I was relaxing at home with family when tragedy struck. I was diagnosed with a rare condition known as Locked in Syndrome, leaving me a quadriplegic and mute, Little is known of this dreaded affliction, however, only about 1,000 people are thought to suffer from it, and the prognosis is normally not good. There is no cure for Locked in Syndrome, but some have wave walked away as if nothing ever happened. I Have shown traits that indicate that total recovery is more likely than others. After 76 days in the hospital and 4 days in a nursing home, I came home on hospice, as it was believed my final days were near. Instead, I have been moved to Home Health Care and because the improvement that I have shown, I no longer qualifies for hospice. I credit beating the odds to family and faith. I know the amount may seem excessive, but to be honest, with medical expenses being what they are today, it may not be enough. I will need a specialty van and will probably need to move to an area where services are available. Currently, I live more than an hours drive from the nearest hospital. According to the research I’ve done, I stand a good chance to recover with the right therapies. I’ve already shown pretty good success, at least on my left side currently.
