I had a good job on a military base when I started feeling pains in my legs. Which only got worse over time. I was sent to the doctor for evaluation. I was deemed no longer fit for duty and sent home. Since then I’ve lost my ability to walk- actually I get around okay with a walker. Since I lost my job, I lost not only my income but I lost my health insurance also. I need 3 MRIs to find out what the problem is and if it can be treated.
I have no idea how much this will cost, but any money will help me along the way. My goal is to be treated (physical therapy) or (operation) whatever it takes to make me whole again so I can go back to work and lead a normal life as before.
Without health insurance, I can’t get the MRIs needed; without income, I can’t get health insurance. So i’m in a conundrum. I’ve applied for SSDI, but that could take two years or more to get that.
I was receiving long-term disability from my former employer’s insurance company, but without the MRI, they could not carry it out any further. After my health insurance canceled me, I can’t get it done. So I can forget about getting long-term disability.
In the meantime, the bills are piling up. And my credit score is dropping drastically. I can’t get any more loans. I’m at a loss, I don’t know what else I can do.
No one will hire a security officer that can’t walk. That’s my background for 35 years.
