This is my newest grandson Austin, He was born January 3rd, 2023, He made it through his first journey and made it through birth. Austin was diagnosed with Single ventricle heterotaxy syndrome. He has had two major procedures and is looking at least 2-3 heart surgeries before he reaches his first birthday. Austin’s diagnosis wasn’t determined until his mom was 7 months pregnant. As soon as Austin was born, he was taken to CICU, as he struggled to breathe. Thank God he has an amazing medical team. Austin is the first child of my son and his wife. As most of us know having a newborn can be stressful. This however is a different level. To watch them cry as he was transported to another hospital. Where a team was ready to take him in for immediate heart surgery, however, he is a strong little man and didn’t have his first procedure till he was a week old. God Bless Heterotaxy is a rare condition where many organs in the body can be formed abnormally, in the wrong position, or even missing. Many children with heterotaxy have complex heart defects, which are often the most challenging problems associated with heterotaxy.
