Imagine being in the best shape of your life and choosing to donate a kidney to a friend that was in need. Now imagine going for in for your final stage of evaluation to become the donor only to receive a call that you might have cancer. For Mike Williams, that was his reality on August 3, 2024. He was asked to return to the hospital for more tests and within 3 days had received a stage 4 colon cancer diagnosis. Later that month, he and his family learned the cancer had attached to his liver and was present in areas of his chest and stomach. The recommended age for a colonoscopy is 45, without his selfless act of helping a friend, Mike’s cancer could have continued to grow and spread for another 3 years without detection.

Mike immediately began fighting. Since diagnosis; he’s seen numerous oncologists across the state, battled and defeated chemo induced colitis, completed 12 rounds of chemotherapy, and saw marked progress from Phase I of his battle. Phase II of Mike’s fight began in February and includes maintenance chemotherapy treatments paired with additional treatments to fight, rather than pause, the cancer in his body. Currently, 14 rounds have been completed but the total number is undetermined.

However, treatments are roughly $3,000 each month and are not covered by insurance. This is on top of his medical expenses through Duke, lost time at work, and normal everyday living expenses.

This is where we need your help! Summit South Crossfit is hosting a fundraiser on May 31, 2025 with a BIG goal of raising as much money as we can to help alleviate any stress from Mike, Brooke, and Harlow’s life.

We believe that the sky is the limit when God is involved, so we’re asking for you to consider supporting Mike by making a tax deductible donation, becoming a personal or business event sponsor (levels attached and link below) and/or donating an item to our raffle or auction. We also invite you to come out on May 31st to participate in the WOD (workout of the day), play a round of cornhole, listen to live music, and enjoy what will surely be a great event!

Thank you for your consideration and feel free to reach out to Melissa Maybin (828-606-7943) with any questions.
