Ruben was diagnosed with a brain tumor in February. A 10-hour surgery removed 80% of the tumor. However, he is undergoing extensive treatment of 30 weekly radiation sessions followed by a year of chemotherapy. Ruben will require monthly brain scans for the rest of his life to monitor the tumor. Ruben’s wife, Elizabeth, has hired a home healthcare worker, which insurance does not cover. Elizabeth is working full time while caring for their 10-year-old daughter, Julia, and taking Ruben for his treatments.
