I am an 84-year-old man, and I live alone. A series of medical problems, starting with Covid, caused me to fall behind on several bills, including my rent. I was able to catch up on my other bills but was not able to stay ahead of my rent. I tried to negotiate an agreement with my landlord to make up the past due amount over a period of time, but he has notified me that, since I am a month behind, if I do not pay, I must vacate my apartment within the next 6 days. I have lived here for over 10 years and consider this my home. I never cause a problem and never ask for anything. I hope to stay here because it is close to my friends, convenient to the medical facilities that I use and close to my job. I am trying to earn the money I need. I work parttime in a local retail store and just started working two additional jobs online. I am certain that once I get past this hurdle, I will be able to meet my future responsibilities. I plan to keep working so that I avoid this problem in the future. Failing my responsibilities is not the way I do things. The fact that I have been here so many years should show that I take my obligation seriously. I am embarrassed to be doing this because I believe it is my responsibility, but I tried other options and was unsuccessful. I want to assure everyone that this is a one-time request, I will not be coming back month after month with the same request. I find the idea of having to move, at my age, would be extremely difficult and somewhat frightening and I hope that I can avoid it. I will be extremely grateful for any help I receive. Thank you for your consideration of my request.
