Hello everyone my name is Aaron and in the beginning of the year 2024 I got diagnosed with double (bilateral) testicular cancer in both of the testes.
My wife and I were shocked and scared as anyone else would be. Not knowing where the future would lead us including family planning due to the rare but aggressive nature of bilateral cancer.
The first two treatments and removal of the testes were a success. The third treatment called an RPLND done by very specialized surgeons is the process of removing lymph nodes in the abdomen. The surgery was a success but unfortunately a major complication occurred. A third of my colon died after 10 days post surgery and the infection in my abdominal cavity was so large and intense that I could barely walk. After emergency surgery I had to have a colostomy to let the colon heal as well as a large 22+ cm long wound on my stomach. I had to wear a wound vac which was incredibly painful and have to clean out my wound with gauze every day once the wound vac was removed.
I am now recovering from the reversal of the colostomy and I look forward to normalcy and being active once again. Overall, I would not change a thing about my journey. It has allowed my wife and I to become closer as we have learned about what we can endure not only as individuals but as a couple. She has been given the renown title of best home nurse wife by many doctors and nurses. From cleaning my wound, helping me around the house, changing my colostomy bag (brave isn’t she), and overall making sure I keep a smile on my face during dark times. That and making sure our household filled with cats keeps operating as well as the curious cats at bay.
I would like to thank everyone for donating and reading. I had a previous fundraiser but I am reopening this one to continue to help us as financial burden is the only uncontrollable factor.
Thank you all!
