Chiquita Works is your everyday but extraordinary mother, grandmother, wife, relative, friend and business owner. Chiquita is newly married to a wonderful guy, who has been by her side since day one of her diagnosis. In 2021 she was first diagnosed with stage 3B breast Cancer. She shaved her head, had a double mastectomy, received chemo and rang her bell in October 2021. Coop (as we call her) was back on track, engaged to marry the love of her life, purchased a home, started a new business (Cajun Soul, Food Truck) and was living her best life. Two weeks before her wedding in June 2023, she found out her cancer metastasized and was in her spine and sacral. Upon her return from her Honeymoon she immediately began her treatment only to find out a few months later it has now changed to stage 4 metastatic breast cancer (triple negative in her bones) and was quickly spreading. Unfortunately due to her worsening health The Works had to shut down their food truck business due to her ongoing excruciating pain and fatigue, focus on her treatments and getting back and forth to the Drs which requires them to drive 50 mins to and from the city 4- 8 times per month. Having Cancer, especially in America and being a small business owner leaves no room for living, commuting, medical expenses, co-pays, trying to eat healthy and just flat out trying to fight an ongoing battle with cancer. Chiquita is indeed a fighter, and throughout this Battle she has remained positive, focused and refuses to give up! While she continues to battle the fight of her life and begin her next treatment of several rounds of Chemotherapy, she and her husband will continue to do whatever it takes to keep her positive, keep her spirits up and keep her fighting! What can we do to help? We are asking for any and all financial assistance to help with the additional cost this battle is causing. Insurance only covers so much of the monthly NEEDED medication, along with co-pays, travel expenses, day to day living and just trying to overcome, get through and remain positive throughout this journey.
