It is with a very heavy heart that I am sharing the terrible news of Lupe Marie’s passing.

On the morning of December 24th, Maria was found unresponsive by her husband Ruben after a seizure. She was rushed to the hospital and was found to have severe brain damage from lack of oxygen. Maria was transferred to St. Luke’s hospital for a Neurosurgeon evaluation that afternoon and given a very poor prognosis. After a long difficult night, Maria passed away on Christmas morning surrounded by her loved ones.

Maria and her husband Ruben were married this past September. They happily co-parented her two sons (Marcus and Devon) and Ruben’s children (Jasmine and Derrick). She has many immediate and extended family that she loved being with, and was described by friend Jennifer Gregory as the “glue that held everything together.” She just celebrated her 38th birthday and was supposed to be at the Cowboys game tomorrow with Ruben.

Maria worked as a Home health aide for Embrace Hospice. I worked with her at Encompass and begged her to come to Embrace for over a year. She took amazing care of her patients and families and was routinely included in their obituaries because of the impact she made on them. When we notified a previous patient’s wife, she said “there is an army of patients waiting for her in heaven that she literally touched.” The Kerrville Embrace team will miss her greatly.

We are asking for donations in any amount to help Maria’s family through this very difficult time. No amount is too small and it will help so much with funeral arrangements and care of the children.  Her funeral services will be held in Kerrville and we will share details asap.

Thank you and God Bless you all.

Rest in peace Lupe Maria
