I am a 72-year-old senior citizen, I elected to rent a home in Latrup Village, MI from a private owner. The home appeared to be a safe environment at the time of the lease. The ranch style home had updated amenities and was clean. Once in the home after asking the Landlord if there were any problems with the home including water damage. Which he seemly denied. After being in the home three weeks it rains hard and the basement became flooded with water.
I contacted the Landlord he in turn sent his unlicensed repair person to spray a liquid compound on the walls in the basement to stop the water damage. The air conditioning unit kept going out on several occasions. He sent a repair person to keep putting freon in it. Then we had a cold spell for about a week I turned off the air conditioning and turn on the heat I could immediately smell the mold spoils in the house and air. I informed the Landlord he told me to move. So, he had to have known that the house had issues and failed to inform me.
At this point I was already out of over 7,000 dollars to move into this place. I am a senior citizen on a fixed income, and this depleted my savings and available funds.
Then on 10/1/2025 as I was preparing to move out after he sent me a notice to vacate. Something I’ve never experienced in my Life to be asked to move. I’ve owned three homes in my life and sent three now adult children to college, solely on my own. I have been a single parent most of my adult life/ My ex-husband just passed still owing me 100K in child support. I worked for the State of Michigan (MDOC), for 25 years
On 10/5/25 I woke up chocking, gasping for breath. I immediately called Consumer Gas Co. to find out the furnace had several holes in the gas line. I have been forced to live in The Quality Inn for a month and now with a friend.
I just found out and have been diagnosed with Breast Cancer and had to have surgery to remove the carcinoma in my right breast and lymph nodes.
I do not have a job at this time as I am having problems with both knees after knee surgeries
Any aid or financial assistance to regain my independent living to secure a senior apartment would be appreciated and gratefully accepted. Thank you in advance.
