My husband and I had always been able to provide for our family, and to give to others before 2017. I developed severe hand and arm pain that has yet to be diagnosed. Doctors believe it may be related to a genetic condition I have, Glycogen Storage Disease. I have attempted to return to work several times, but it has only lasted for short durations. We have cut back, and have been finding ways to make things work while I await determination from Social Security Disability.
Most recently, my husband had his identity stolen, and someone submitted a tax return using his SS number. We have done everything asked of us, but the IRS still says it could take 2 years to issue our refund. Our car died, and we have been walking and riding the bus everywhere, which is not easy in a suburban area. The final straw has been that the air conditioner in our home broke, and I have a daughter with Angelman Syndrome. She has seizures, and is unable to control her body temperature, which puts her at risk of a seizure due to becoming overheated. I am also still providing all supplies she needs (diapers, wipes, pads, special foods), while we wait for OPWDD to approve her application.
We desperately need a used car and to fix the air conditioner in our home. I also have been unable to even buy my eldest daughter’s high school graduation photos. We have borrowed from family already, just trying to get to the point of Social Security Disability, which I was just told my hearing is in 4 months! Between waiting for Disability, and the IRS, I just don’t see how we are going to be able to make these things work. Please help me get 1 used car for my family, fix our air conditioning, and get my daughter’s photos.
All of the governmental agencies take their time to approve any requests, but they don’t realize that families can’t always wait that time to get the assistance. The utility companies don’t want to hear that you have applications pending everywhere.
