Update: Catherine is home from the hospital! Her doctors were able to implant a defibrillator so she could leave the hospital.
On April 6, 2026 in Park City, Utah Catherine Bigelow suffered a cardiac emergency while watching her daughter Maddie play softball for Murray High School. Her heart stopped beating and she collapsed in the stands. The quick response of our softball fans and the Park City staff and medical personnel in administering CPR saved Catherine’s life that day. The paramedics arrived and were able to stabilize her vital signs enough to transport her to Park City Hospital and later that night she was transferred to the cardiac intensive care unit at Intermountain Medical Center. Her heart has experienced severe trauma and she may need to be placed on the heart transplant waiting list. Catherine has a long journey to recovery. Catherine is a loving Mother and she and her husband Gary have three beautiful children that love their mom and want her to be able to recover. The Bigelow family is part of our Murray Softball family and the softball community here in Utah. Catherine was supporting her daughter Maddie at a softball game when this medical emergency occurred and it was a miracle that she was able to receive immediate life saving care from the trained professionals and staff that were also at the softball game. We are so thankful to the Park City softball team for their support and help during and after that day. Catherine and Gary will need our support more now than ever. Catherine works for Murray School District as an occupational therapist and will be away from her job while she recovers. The medical expenses will be substantial, especially if she ends up needing a heart transplant. Please give what you can to help the Bigelow family during this difficult time.
