On June 21st, my mother, Tammy Myers suffered a stroke related to undiagnosed A-FIB that caused her to have blood clots in her heart. These clots broke off and went to her brain causing the stroke to happen. She also has blood clots to the lungs, a kidney, and her right leg. She suffered severe right sided weakness and is currently unable to speak. She was Airlifted to SLU where she spent over a week in the ICU. During that time, she suffered a second stroke causing further damage to her right side. She is currently still in the hospital (for over a month now) but will soon be transferred to a rehab facility to help her regain some of her strength and independence back. Tammy currently has Medicaid insurance and they will only pay for 12-14 days of rehab. We have hopes that she’ll regain a lot of her strength back but with such a short rehab stay, she will more than likely need to use a wheelchair to move about her house at times. So, doorways will need to be widened to give her access to the rooms and she may need other equipment such as a lift recliner chair to help make her more independent. Tammy has been a caregiver for many years, she started off working with developmentally disabled adults back in 2000 and has cared for many people since then. Most recently she worked as a private caregiver for the elderly. She is animal lover and has a few farm animals and other pets that have been dependent on her as well. Tammy had been unemployed for a month prior to the incident, so the bills are piling up. Please consider helping Tammy with repairs to her home and to cover some of her expenses during this time, so she can return to her life as normal as possible. Thank you for your consideration.
