At 24, I faced and beat Stage 1 ovarian cancer. Now, five years later, that familiar enemy has returned—this time requiring surgery to remove a metastatic tumor, followed by rigorous chemotherapy. Hearing those words again brings an ache that is hard to put into words, but what makes this chapter truly heartbreaking is having to step onto the battlefield without my greatest source of strength. My mother was my rock during my first diagnosis, but because of her ongoing battle with dementia, she cannot stand beside me in the way she once did. Navigating the grief of her condition while preparing my own body and mind for intensive treatment has been the heaviest weight I have ever had to carry.
I know deep in my heart that I possess the resilience to win this war, but I also recognize that this first battle will test every ounce of my physical, mental, and emotional endurance. The road ahead involves extensive medical procedures, time away from daily life, and significant expenses that quickly become overwhelming.
