Hi, my name is Mia — My family and I are going through an unexpected food crisis. I never imagined how quickly our sense of security could disappear.
Within days, an ant infestation forced us to throw out nearly all of our food. Standing in our kitchen and realizing that about 99% of what we rely on to eat was gone was devastating and overwhelming in a way that’s hard to put into words.
Replacing groceries all at once simply isn’t something we can do on our own. I am disabled, which makes finding and maintaining work extremely difficult, and my mother—our primary source of income—is now facing the very real possibility of being laid off due to circumstances completely outside her control. At the same time, recent policy changes have made it much harder for us to access food assistance. Although we previously had Food Stamps, obtaining them again has become a challenge, and we still need food while we work through that process.
This campaign is about getting us through an unexpected emergency. The funds raised will help us replace the food we lost and create a small, two-month emergency buffer so we can stay fed and stable while we navigate job uncertainty and delays in assistance. This is not about long-term support; it’s about surviving a sudden crisis and buying us the time we need to regroup.
Asking for help is not something that comes easily. But food is a basic necessity, and right now, we cannot meet that need on our own. Any support: whether through donating or sharing, helps us take a step toward stability and dignity during an incredibly difficult moment.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for reading, for caring, and for supporting the Forté family during this crisis.
