On May 20, 2026 I was diagnosed with Basal Cell Carcinoma on my face. Due to the length of time I have had these spots, and depths they may have gone, my team is recommending the Mohs Surgery. With cancer removal on the face (especially in such close proximity to my eye, brain, and nasal passages) comes expensive surgery, reconstruction surgery, and the time needed to heal.
As someone who is self-employed with two major pre-existing conditions, insurance is absolutely not affordable. The monthly premiums with high deductibles, and low amounts that’d be covered each year I’d tell myself “maybe next year”.
I am not one to ask for help. I’m the one everyone comes to when they need help. This is one time that I’m having to choose between much needed treatment, or paying taxes. Paying for one means the other will need to be put on high interest credit cards, or just flat out not getting paid. Anyone who is self employed knows and understands the term “insurance poor”. This is not just a campaign for a surgery. There will be significantly more in the pipeline. I have to hire someone to help my husband keep up with work, to keep up with operations of our business, time to heal, follow up appointments, help with household chores, farm chores, and overall day to day life. Any help is appreciated. I don’t expect to come close to what’s actually needed, but a little boost to minimize the future burden would be nice.
