My name is Maggi Garloff. I am a 74-year-old, low-income widow. My husband died of cancer six years ago. Since then I have managed on Social security, but my health has steadily declined.

During my many years of nonprofit work, toiling in a sector known for its low wages and lack of perks, I learned what joy can come from giving to and helping others.
