My name is Suzi Lucas, living a happy life, married 12 years to Mark Lucas. We are active 68 year olds who love the outdoors. We have always been active in our church, working with Foster Kids, participating in the women’s ministry (me),        Grounds Committee (Mark) and volunteering at children’s events.

In 2016 I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer. I had surgery, chemo & radiation and thought I had beat it after 4 1/2 years. However, an exam revealed it had come back. In May 2021 they had me start taking chemotherapy, following up with surgery. The pathology from the surgery revealed that the cancer had resisted the chemo and had grown during those months. A PET scan also revealed that it had metastasized to my lungs and was now Stage 4; there was nothing more they could do. They gave me the option to take another chemo drug to hopefully slow the growth and told me “it’s all about quality of life now”.

I was not ready to give up so easily.  Then some good friends told us about a close friend of theirs who had gone to EuroMed, a non-traditional medical clinic in Arizona.  He had lung cancer and was given 9 months to live.  That was 7 years ago!  His story gives me hope! They use IPT (Insulin Potentiated Therapy) that drops your insulin level, then uses glucose to carry the chemo to the cancer.

We prayed about whether we should go and within days we were offered two places to stay in the Phoenix area, for free! One place is only 10 minutes from the clinic.  We believe God moved in the hearts of our family members and friends as they have given us enough money to pay for 8 weeks because they believed this could make a difference for my life. We are very grateful for them!

Our insurance doesn’t cover the treatments, but we believe that God will continue to use others to provide for us. The cost is around $7,500 a week and I started on June 27, 2022. I go every two weeks now and I am flying down and back, so costs have added up quickly.

In my retirement years I am eager to move past Covid and cancer and live life with Mark, serving the Lord at church and other places he leads us.  I have so much love to share with Mark and my two adult kids, as well as others that God puts in my life. I believe God is not finished with me here in this life.  I am eager to see what He is going to do in the years ahead. Yes, quality of life is important, and I want it to last another 20 years. We are praying that we see positive results at the end of December when I get my next PET scan. We certainly appreciate your prayers for my health more than you know!
