At age 55, Joe recently suffered a heart attack. After two weeks in the hospital and the installation of a pacemaker/defibrillator device, he was told he would not be able to hold a Commercial Drivers License any longer. He has no income and cannot work for the next few months. We were told he could not drive a car for 6 months. We have looked into any possible means of assistance and at this point we qualify for nothing. He is either too young or had previously made more money than acceptable for government assistance. He is planning on getting some type of employment as soon as he is medically released to do so. He is facing utility bills and health insurance premiums that are due on a weekly basis. He needs the insurance to maintain his healthcare and the electricity to stay on since he is hooked up to a monitoring system 24/7 for his heart. This has been a completely life changing event and one that we were not ready for, nor did we ever anticipate. I myself, work but I do not make enough income to support us or cover the utilities. We have been very surprised and shocked to see how little help is available in our situation. We are both truck drivers and we have seen a major decrease of income in the trucking industry. It has been difficult to survive over the past few years and we were looking forward to a better future. We are hard workers and we will adapt. We just are in a very difficult financial situation right now. We are attempting to find a way to navigate through our problems and keep positive. A positive attitude is the best medicine. Every aspect of our day to day life has changed. It is uncertain what we can do to pay our bills at this time. I anticipate about 2 months of expenses, the cost of the weekly insurance payments and the usual household bills will amount to approximately $5000. We would appreciate any help! Every penny is a blessing.
