I had considered doing this for a long time and finally decided to give it a try as I am out of options. I have been a single parent all of my adult life. I have 2 children, ages 30 and 18. I have done everything on my own from rent to daycare an everything in between with very little assistance from government funding and no child support. Along the way I have accrued a lot of debt and then I thought that going to school would help me in the long run but that was the worst mistake I had ever made so now I also have that debt added to my financial burden (65K). I currently work 2 jobs just to keep up with everything but this only allows me to live paycheck to pay check. I do not have a car payment and my car is 11 years old and I have been able to keep up with maintenace and repairs however I will need a few more repairs in order to pass inspection this year. My airbag system as of today has triggered the malfunction warning lights and my horn doesn’t work, ( of all the ridiculous things to break) There are a few other items but these have no bearing on passing inspection I am also living in an apartment just for perspective. I am 17 years away from “retiring” with very little savings and I am just trying to get ahead and maybe be able to retire debt free.
When my oldest had turned 18 I had pleaded for him to get a job to help out a little but at that time he had refused and moved out to a location that would be rent free. My youngest just turned 19and she does help out where she can but it is not her responsibility and I don’t want to drag her down in my debt as she is just beginning her life
I am in the process of trying to move to a state that does not have state income tax so that way I will have a little more in my paycheck but once I move I am hopefully going to be able to get a 3rd job for at least 2 years so I can build up some type of savings.
