I am a 54 year old woman. I have had post-polio since the age of 22 months. I have been in a wheelchair since the age of three. I live on a very limited monthly income, and have not had the resources to replace my vehicle.
I was a single parent of a wonderful son. My son has chosen his path through the Navy, and just beginning his journey. He was my legs, my movie partner, and my everything when he was here with me.
I provided community service in the fields of federal taxes, and volunteered on a board for HUD (Housing of Urban Development) in my area for 25 years now. I worked with the deaf, and deaf-blind as an interpreter coordinator, and basic level interpreter.
Since losing my accessible car (20 years old) I feel stranded in my apartment. It feels as if I literally lost my way of walking, and any reason to get up and go.
I am seeking financial assistance in purchasing a wheelchair accessible van in order to get my independence back, and a way to help me too help others again.
