After much convincing, my stepdaughter allowed me to share this video and need. My grandson has had a physical illness since birth. His pancreas suddenly without reason stops working. He has been in and out of the hospital for the past 20 years. Due to his trauma as a child, he has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar at age 16. My daughter is a schoolteacher and works an additional 10 hours a week to support 2 households because my grandson has become so violent. He is on baker act (mental hospital stay number 16). She has been desperately seeking a facility without success. He goes to counseling and sees a psychiatrist. However, he has been fired by many because he misses appointments, or she has been told “He is to mentally ill and our office doesn’t handle cases this bad.” With every mental hospital stay she pleads for more help than 9 days. However, due to the mental hospitals closing down in the 70’s and HIPA you cannot keep someone against their will. We are moving my grandson into a mobile home out in the country, and she is seeking an attorney to become his guardian in hopes of securing a facility. You would be shocked to find out just how broken the mental health system is in the U.S. We help as much as we can, but she needs the community’s help! There has to be answers that we haven’t been able to find. Someone out there has to know connections. More than money and help to rebuild her home she needs systems in place for her son as well as the thousands of others suffering. They money will be used to rebuild her condo and pay for an attorney to set guardianship in place. With guardianship she will be able to have the mental hospital keep him until he is mentally stable and be able to seek a facility to place him in. Thank you for your help or suggestions!
