If you are lucky enough to know Jason Varga, you know he’s one of the great ones. While I don’t know him that well personally, I know that he gives of himself freely and does a ton for the Lincoln community. I recently found out that a good friend of mine, Kari Luther, is longtime friends with Jason’s brother Chris, who is sadly in hospice with stage 4 cancer. Kari informed me that the Vargas were handling this on their own and not seeking help from anyone. I cannot fathom losing a sibling and also dealing with potentially crippling medical debt, so I feel that it’s time our community does something for Jason and their family in his time of need. Please read Jason’s piece below:
Four and half years ago, my brother Chris was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, that had already spread to his liver and lungs as well. Following years of a good fight with surgeries and chemo, it is finally time to let go and he is in hospice as I write this.

For the last 26 years, he was worked and raised a family in Korea as a musician. His doctor recommended visiting family in the U.S. one last time. Unfortunately, things progressed faster than expected and he was unable to return to Korea – in a way a blessing in disguise so he can be around so much family.  His daughter who has not left his side has made it over to help care for him.  However, Korean Universal Health Care does not cover medical expenses incurred outside the country, which is why he is uninsured currently.

Here’s where some help would come in…Although Korea has a great universal insurance, after so long of having some medical expenses and only being able to work part-time, a trip to the ER and hospice care, anticipated funeral costs, we are looking for support to cover these expenses.  This will also help reduce stress on his daughter and enable her to continue her schooling without interruption, which we know would mean everything to him.

Your support will cover:
– Emergency Room Expenses
– Hospice Expenses
– If enough is raised, it will go towards funeral arrangements
