Let me start by saying that I am not very good at reaching out for help from others as I have always prided myself on being very independent soul. But the time has come to put my pride aside and reach out for help from friends, family & fellow members of my community. This next chapter of my life is going to be a challenge both financially & personally!
I have suffered a degenerative kidney disease that was diagnosed in childhood. I have spent many years of monitoring/treatment of the kidneys but I am now at the point of very low kidney function! I was put on the Kidney Transplant list a while ago and have been hoping to avoid the need to have kidney dialysis.
I am fortunate enough to have an amazing friend, who was not a match for me, who chose to donate their kidney anyway through a voucher program which then allowed me to get a kidney from another person who was a match. After many months and lots of hoops to jump through they have found a kidney that is a match for me and have scheduled the transplant surgery for July 29, 2025.
Even with insurance, this will be a VERY expensive endeavor and will include lots of follow up care! I will be unable to work for a while, and unsure exactly how much I will be having to pay out of pocket for the transplant and all the care involved. I have already maxed out my credit cards just getting the required stuff done in order to qualify for the transplant.
