In 2023, our beloved friend and family member, Monica Dehghan, received the devastating diagnosis of Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) cancer affecting her nose and breathing passages. This life-threatening diagnosis turned Monica’s world upside down, requiring her to undergo multiple rounds of radiation and extensive treatments.

The impact was immediate and profound—Monica was unable to work, and her partner, Chuck Bond, became her primary caregiver, driving her to over 40 six-hour treatments and countless appointments, while also providing care at home.  Despite their best efforts and the support of a skilled plastic surgeon, Monica needed major reconstructive surgery on her nose. After a long and painful recovery, they were given hope with an “all clear” from oncology.

Sadly, in January, the cancer returned, and a large tumor behind Monica’s nose required more surgery, undoing much of the previous reconstruction. Aggressive medications were tried in hopes of avoiding further surgery, but the tumor persisted, and Monica now faces another round of invasive surgery, recovery, and the possibility of further reconstructive procedures or a prosthesis. Monica is a devoted mother of two and grandmother of five, and throughout this three-year ordeal, Chuck has stood by her side, financing whatever insurance would not cover—amounting to tens of thousands of dollars—while also sacrificing his own income to care for Monica.

The financial burden of ongoing medical care, supportive treatments, and lost wages has become overwhelming. We are reaching out to our community for help in supporting Monica and Chuck during this incredibly difficult time. Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference in their fight for continued care and a little financial relief. Thank you for reading, considering, and as always, Viva Beloveds and F*ck Cancer!
