Hello, my name is Shavell Ayers, and I am reaching out during one of the most challenging times of my life. About three years ago, I was diagnosed with Cutaneous T‑Cell Lymphoma (CTCL), a rare form of cancer that has deeply affected my health, my ability to work, and the daily life of my family. Since becoming ill, I have been unable to work, and my husband has become our only source of income. We have two young children, and I stay home to care for them while managing the physical and emotional toll of this disease.
I have applied for disability, but the process is long, slow, and still ongoing. In the meantime, I am trying to find a way to afford the treatments I need. Without insurance, my weekly co‑pay and treatment costs are about $450 every week, which has become impossible for us to manage on a single income. We are doing everything we can, but the financial strain has become overwhelming.
Asking for help is not easy for me. I have always tried to handle things on my own, but right now I need support to continue the treatments that keep me stable and give me the best chance to stay healthy for my children.
