Matthew and Alma are both incredibly hard-working servants of their family and community. They are selfless, non-complaining, optimistic, gracious, and merciful. Although Matthew & Alma would never ask others to assist them during their time of need — because they always recognize that many others experience hardship much greater than their current trials — still, their family is truly experiencing a moment of real financial need.

This upcoming Holy Thursday April 18, 2019, our dear friend, Matthew, will be having a (second) major corneal eye surgery.  The recovery period is anywhere from 2-6 months, during which Matthew cannot work to support his family for at least several months; stitches will begin to be removed after 6 months. Matthew is a faithful husband of 15 years to Alma, and father to their three beautiful children: Joshua & Almita (12 year-old twins), and 1.5 year-old daughter Madison.  Throughout his entire marriage, Matthew has faithfully served God with his gifts of composing & leading worship music, and his passion for youth ministry. He is currently serving at a church community in the Los Angeles area.

The timing of Matthew’s approaching surgery & recovery period is particularly challenging because of the current financial strain on their family. For the past 8 years, his wife Alma has worked remotely for a wonderful, Chicago-based ministry. But due to the recent restructuring within the company, Alma’s position was unfortunately no longer needed, and she lost her job at end of February 2019. She is currently helping serve at her mother’s restaurant as she remains open to the direction of the Holy Spirit in how she is called to use her gifts to serve others.

In Matthew 25:35-40, Jesus invites us to recognize His face in the needs of others “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of my brethren, you did it to me” Let us embrace this present opportunity to minister to Matthew & Alma, to help ease the burden of anxiety surrounding their monthly mortgage payment, and the medical expenses that will not be covered by their insurance for the eye surgery. Matthew and Alma have spent their lives in service of others for the sake of the Gospel. May we, in turn, reflect the loving providence of Our Heavenly Father, in caring for their family during their present time of need…

Most importantly, thank you for the invaluable gift of your spiritual support for Matthew & Alma as we enter into Holy Week & celebrate the Easter season of the healing power of Jesus’ resurrection. Although Matthew & Alma are truly humbled that you would even consider making a financial sacrifice to assist their family, they are most grateful for the gift of your prayers.
