My name is Tara Cook, and in April of this year (2023), I was diagnosed with B-Cell Lymphoblastic Acute leukemia. With Philadelphia like chromosome. This type of leukemia is rarely found in adults, but when it is, it’s considered to be a very high-risk and aggressive cancer, with an overall survival rate of less than 50%. And the Philadelphia like component means it is highly likely to return. The battle to fight this cancer is in-turn a very aggressive one. I spend a good deal of my time in the hospital undergoing intense ‘chemotherapy blasts’ consisting of anywhere between nine and eleven rounds of varying types of chemo on any given week. Because of these high amounts of chemo, my body has started building a tolerance, This is scary due to the likelihood of it’s return. The doctors fear if it returns within the next few years there will be no way to fight it. So I now wear a fanny pack containing an I.V bag of chemo that is slowly administered to me 24/7. As a result, I am clearly unable to work, which has added tremendous stress to an already terrifying experience. I am told this battle will be ongoing to 2025 and will likely include a risky bone marrow transplant. I am asking for any help to alleviate the terror of losing everything I own, whilst fighting for my life. In addition to mounting medical expenses, I am faced with everyday bills such as rent, utilities, car payment, etc. I thank you for your time and consideration. And if all you have to offer is a prayer, I will accept it with a great deal of gratitude!
