There is never a good time to be diagnosed with cancer, but my breast cancer diagnosis came at the worst time right as I was transitioning between jobs. The cost of Cobra to keep health insurance coverage, being out of work without pay at my new employer and all the while the medical bills keep coming. Now that I have new insurance, there is a new deductible to meet and a new annual max out-of-pocket to meet so its like starting over with what I already had to do at the beginning of the year. I have racked up $12,000 plus in out-of-pocket expenses already and one more major surgery coming up next month, which will have me out of work for another 4-6 weeks. For some people this might be a small hurdle, but it is a major financial hit for me and my family. We were hoping to buy a home soon and it breaks my heart that my daughter just desperately wants a puppy and my son talks constantly about when we move and he gets his own room. All the while, what savings I had been working on is being eaten up by medical bills… I’m fortunate to have gotten this far thanks to the house money, but that is running out and I’m not sure how I will cover the expenses that continue to grow, so here I am doing something that I would never want to do. If you have it in your heart and are able to help, my family and I would really be so grateful. Any amount is a help.
