12/1 Edit: there is currently an investigation into the tow company and deputy that responded to our accident. Proper potocol was not followed and my van currently still sits in the impound lot where it should have never went in the first place. The tow driver strong armed me into bringing it there and made me feel like I had no other option. There WERE other options! Being in such a weak and vulnerable situation, and shaken up from the accident alone, I wasn’t aware of what my rights were. My insurance agent has been trying to fight for the recovery of my van as well because I had emergency tow and winch on my enhanced roadside service at the time of the accident and she has confirmed that I am the third victim this month that has been in this exact situation with being strong armed by this tow company impounding vehicles and then demanding CASH & TITLE to avoid court. I should have been able to get my van towed to the place of my wishes, whether it was home or directly to the scrap yard, covered 100% by my insurance. We’re hoping we can at least get something financially for scrapping it after we’re able to recover it, without having to pay an arm and a leg, or anything!.. for recovery. Our Elected Sheriff is investigating.
Because I only had liability insurance and not collision, I won’t be awarded any insurance money to go towards a new used vehicle, so we are counting on your continued prayers and donations to help us raise at minimum, a down payment for another used van. This is an extremely trying time for us during the holidays and we don’t plan to have a normal Christmas due to this circumstance, but at least we have eachother! On 11/26 just after 4:30 p.m, my 7 year old son and I started drifting off the road going around an icy bend on the way home from picking him up from his dad, and I couldn’t correct it properly 😭 We were in the middle of a winter weather advisory and after driving safely the two hours prior, making it two miles from home, we spun around a couple of times before sliding backwards down into a steep ditch and crashed into a family of strong healthy birch trees. Honestly, any other tree around there would have likely fallen on us after impact.
I know God was in complete control, lessening the blow, despite my van being a total loss now. If we had crashed head-on, my air bag would have seriously injured me because Im only 5’2″ and I was right on the steering wheel.
I’m sore and have bumps and bruises, and my hands are cut up from weeding through shards of glass everywhere. I have some knots and bruises. My son bumped his head on his high back booster seat but doesn’t have any serious injuries. It could have been so much worse bodily, so we’re thanking God for that! It’s all still pretty devastating, though, especially around Christmas time.
I purchased my 2004 Chrysler town and country for $3300 about 7/8 years ago when my son was a baby. We named her Pearl. Apart from some underbody rust, she was in tip-top condition for her age. I have taken great care of her over the years so that she would last us forever. We’re not heavy on the latest trends and really appreciate and care for the things God blesses us with. I truly never ask for help with anything, we always find a way through the mud, but this situation has me feeling absolutely defeated. We do not have a large support system. I am self employed and do all I can do to be able to homeschool and care for my son from home, which is in the middle of nowhere about 15 minutes from the closest civilization.
I have been preparing to sell my handmade real pine cone wreaths at a local craft show throughout the month of December for extra Christmas funds but now I can’t drive there with my inventory.
Sadly, Im terrible with planning for emergencies as a single mom, I dont even want to think about these things happening. But this has certainly been a lesson learned! I was born and raised in Michigan. I’ve driven and had control in way worse weather conditions. I keep reliving the experience and wondering where I went wrong. We need lots of continued prayers.
I have created this campaign because I had some folks message me about wanting to donate and we could use all the help we can get.
Accidents happen, not sure why I feel like a criminal now 🤦🏼♀️ But so, anything earned here will go towards helping us get a “new to us,” USED vehicle so I can continue to clean my elderly client’s homes, drop off my son for our parenting time arrangement, and all the other odd jobs and motherly duties I have. Likely, another mini van I can house all of my cleaning supplies in, that we can take care of for the next decade.
