Meet sweet 4-year-old Emmett.
What began as a routine childhood illness became the very miracle that may have saved Emmett’s kidneys.
In February, an unrelated abscess led doctors to discover that Emmett has dangerously high blood pressure. After months of testing, he was diagnosed with severe bilateral renal artery stenosis, a rare condition requiring specialized treatment at Boston Children’s Hospital.
The first procedure will be in August, with the second a few months later. This is a less invasive procedure doctors plan to attempt before a future complex surgery called a bilateral kidney auto-transplant. The first procedure will hopefully buy time for his body to get bigger before transplant surgeries.
The family now faces frequent travel between Dallas and Boston, mounting medical expenses, and time away from work. As a self-employed business owner and the primary provider for his family, Matt’s income depends on his daily involvement. Every day that he is unable to be on job sites or meet with clients, the business, and his family’s income slows. Through it all, Matt and Sarah continue to trust in the God who has faithfully gone before them every step of the way.
