My name is Beth, and I am asking for help during a period when several essential needs have come together at once and have become more than I can manage on my income alone.
My most urgent need is medical. I have cataracts in both eyes, and my vision has been steadily getting worse. I need cataract surgery on both eyes, but before the surgeries can be done, my eye doctor needs to treat and drain infected oil glands in my left upper eyelid. Between the procedures, surgery deductibles, coinsurance, copays, medications, and related expenses, the amount I need to pay out of pocket is more than I can afford. I applied for CareCredit in hopes of financing the medical expenses, but I was declined, and have tried every other avenue to get financed, but all were declined.
I work full-time and am doing everything I can to support myself. I am single and solely responsible for my household expenses, including rent, utilities, transportation, food, and medical costs. My current income leaves very little after those basic necessities are paid. I have gone from earning a much higher income in my previous career to rebuilding financially after a very difficult period in my life. I am actively working toward returning to a better-paying position, but right now I am trying to stay employed, keep a roof over my head, and take care of my health while living on a limited income.
Reliable transportation is also essential for me. I live in an area where I need a vehicle to get to work, medical appointments, grocery stores, and other necessities. I currently have access to a 2016 Chrysler 200 that I have the opportunity to purchase, but I need assistance with the purchase price and several necessary repairs and maintenance items to make it dependable transportation. Having a safe and reliable vehicle is especially important as I prepare for multiple eye procedures and follow-up appointments.
I am also behind on a portion of the rent I owe my aunt, from whom I rent my home. I have continued paying what I can, but an increase in my housing costs combined with medical expenses and transportation needs has made it difficult to catch up. Assistance with the past-due amount would help me stabilize my housing while I concentrate on getting my vision treated and continuing to work.
Funds raised through this campaign would be used toward my eye treatment and cataract surgeries, medical deductibles and related expenses, the purchase and necessary repairs of reliable transportation, and catching up on past-due housing expenses. I will provide estimates, bills, and documentation whenever possible so donors can see exactly what their assistance is helping accomplish.
Asking for help is not easy for me. I have spent much of my life working, supporting myself, and trying to solve problems on my own. I am not asking anyone to solve everything for me. I am asking for some help getting through a difficult period so that I can restore my vision, remain safely housed, continue working, and move toward financial stability again.
