Your participation is invaluable as we work together to foster a campus where everyone feels safe and heard.
Why a registration charge?
We kindly ask for a contribution of $50 per WSU staff member, administrator, or professor to participate in this event. For students who wish to join, we are offering a sliding scale fee of $10 to $20. All funds raised will be donated to YWCA Clark County, helping to support vital resources for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence.
To ensure a smooth check-in process, the registration fee will be collected at the check-in table before the event begins. We will be accepting cash or card. Please plan to arrive 10-15 minutes early to ensure you have plenty of time to get settled.
What is the event?
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® is a one-mile walk in heels to raise funds to support survivors of sexual trauma. Whether you decide to start or join a team, or walk as an individual, every dollar you raise will provide safety and healing for those we serve. Since 2001, men, women, and their families around the world have joined award-winning Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®: The International Men’s March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault & Gender Violence. It is a dramatic opportunity to raise awareness in your community about the serious causes, effects, and remediations to men’s sexualized violence.
Why is it titled “Walking into Take back the Night”?
Survivors United is collaborating with the Center for Intercultural Learning & Affirmation (CILA) to present both “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” and “Take Back the Night.” CILA ensures that this event takes place during the Red Zone, which is the period between the start of the fall semester and Thanksgiving break when college students, particularly first-year students, are at the highest risk of sexual assault. We believe that combining these two events under one banner will effectively showcase the issue of gender-based violence during the Red Zone while allowing students of all genders to actively engage in discussions about campus safety and ways to improve it. CILA will also ensure that there are conversations about the resources available both on and off campus, as well as guidance on how to report incidents if students are unsure of the process.
