Help JB Continue His Journey of Recovery and Hope
On September 5, 2020, our lives changed forever. What was meant to be a fun day of fishing before JB’s 25th birthday turned tragic when he experienced a fentanyl poisoning that caused cardiac arrest and a severe anoxic brain injury. After months in the hospital in Austin and rehab at TIRR Memorial Hermann in Houston, JB came home, (to our new home in Sugar Land) where I now care for him full-time.

Over the past five years, we’ve truly seen miracles, progress doctors said would never happen. But many of the therapies that do help and could help JB keep improving aren’t covered by insurance.
Why We’re Asking for Help
I work full-time to cover our basics, but we still spend close to $1,000 a month on things Medicare and Medicaid don’t cover. JB’s insurance also limits his access to both inpatient and outpatient therapy opportunities such as consistent speech therapy from neuro specialized providers who could help him regain swallowing and speech (talking and eating his favorite foods!) On top of that, treatments like hyperbaric oxygen therapy, stem cell injections, and advanced brain therapies come at a steep cost and are all treatments we have been really wanting to give JB the opportunity to try, as some brain injury patients have seen meaningful improvement through these “alternative” therapies.
Your support helps with JB’s immediate care—but also gives us a chance to pursue long-term treatments that could change his future.

It’s been over two years since we last asked for help. JB’s original GoFundMe raised over 70k and was such a blessing, making so much of his progress possible…and we’re forever grateful.
