Hi everyone,
My name is Meg, and I am asking for help during one of the hardest seasons of my life.
I am currently on disability due to injuries I suffered after being hit by a drunk driver — an accident that has significantly altered my life. Because of my injuries and my inability to return to work in the same capacity, I was also laid off. Since then, I have been doing everything I can to survive, stretch my savings, and rebuild stability for myself.
Recently, I purchased a home with the hope of making it safe, livable, and stable. I used my savings to begin repairs and trusted someone to help me with the work. Unfortunately, that trust was taken advantage of in a devastating way.
The person I hired failed to complete the work properly, left the home in unsafe condition, and I believe entered the home when I was not there and stole major appliances/items from the property. The back door was kicked in and damaged, the power was cut, and major items were taken, including the stove/range, refrigerator, water tank, and dishwasher.
On top of that, there were serious safety concerns connected to how the home was handled. Utilities were left running improperly, including gas/heat being left on for an extended period. There was also an incident where a stove burner was left on and a smoke/fire alarm was removed or taken down. This left me feeling unsafe, violated, and almost placed in harm’s way.
Because of everything that happened, the utility bill became extremely high — close to $1,000 — at the same time I was already dealing with disability, job loss, repair costs, stolen appliances, property damage, and money lost on work I paid for but did not properly receive.
I have reported what happened, but I have not received meaningful help or resolution. Right now, I am left trying to pick up the pieces on my own.
I am raising funds to help with:
- Restoring power/utilities
- Paying down the overwhelming utility bill
- Replacing stolen appliances
- Securing the home and repairing damage
- Addressing urgent safety issues
- Getting the home back to a safe and livable condition
This is not easy for me to ask. I have always tried to figure things out, keep pushing, and make do with what I have. But this situation has become financially and emotionally overwhelming, and I need help getting back on stable ground.
