Over the past year, my brother’s health has declined so severely that he can no longer care for himself. Every day has become a fight for his safety and well-being. Despite countless calls to social workers, clinicians, medical professionals, and even law enforcement, we’ve hit wall after wall. As many have told me — the system is broken.
Right now, I’m doing everything I can. Alongside a few family members, we take turns essentially babysitting him to ensure he doesn’t harm himself or others. This has become a full-time job for me, and on top of that, I’m undergoing my own medical treatment due to the toll this crisis has taken on my physical and mental health.
As much as I wish I didn’t have to, I’m asking for help.
Any donations will go directly toward my brother’s needs: medical care, daily necessities, transportation, and anything else required as we try to establish a long-term care plan. Every dollar makes a difference. And if you’re unable to give financially, emotional support, kind words, or sharing resources related to adult mental health care are just as meaningful.
This is an uphill battle — one that no family should have to face alone — but I believe with community support, we can get him the help he so desperately needs.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for being here.
