Hi Friends –
As you know, our dear friend Dave Martinez passed on June 12, 2026. Since he was a regular fixture at Bob Dobbs for decades we have grown to know and love him and Kitty.
His son Joey wrote a beautiful tribute to him (paraphrased):
“After 142 days in the hospital and skilled nursing, my dad finally came home with hospice care. His only wishes were to come home and go see my brother (Davey). Early this morning (June 12), his dream came true. No more fighting. No more suffering. He went peacefully in his sleep. The hats are down, and they are with him. Rest in peace, Dad. You and Davey are together now. Love you guys.”
His friend and cartoonist, David Fitzsimmons, also wrote the following:
“I was so privileged to know Mr. Dave Martinez, a kindred bad boy with a rich laugh, a beautiful family man surrounded with love, and a native Tucson treasure. And if you ever wondered, all these years, about those Santa hats on Kino’s horse’s ears…all I can say is I will drive past that statue every Christmas and think of you, Dave”
Our dear Dave is finally resting in peace after his lengthy battle with numerous health issues. Since he hasn’t been able to work in several years, one the primary income source for Dave and Kitty has been their social security. Her income will now be reduced by a third with Dave’s passing and coupled with the accumulated medical bills, Kitty’s challenging times will continue as she grieves.
Let’s all give generously, show her our love and help lessen the angst of her financial issues.
