Our Kiwanis Club supports children’s learning at all school levels. We have ‘Terrific Kid’ program in grade schools, “Builders Club’ in Middle/Junior High, and ‘Key Club’ in High School. Our club is wishing to expand from a strong Key Club program to the lower grade level schools.
We would like to begin a ‘Bringing Up Grades’ (BUG) program in the 3rd and 4th grades of all the schools in Boone County Indiana. This program rewards the students that are usually forgotten to raise their grade in at least one subject while not falling back in any other subjects. Successful students are given a party and recognition rewards after every grading period. Other students are encouraged to mentor the students that are having difficulty, thus giving them an opportunity learn about helping others. The BIG GOAL is to prevent student dropouts from High School and achieve a higher level of abilities and a bigger paycheck when they join the workforce.
Our plan is to coordinate with two other Kiwanis Clubs in Boone County, Indiana, and begin the program in all the grade schools in the county (about 15). We need to raise the seed money to get these programs started in as many schools as possible. Each school will require $2000 – $3000 initial expense to get the program started and using volunteers from the Kiwanis Clubs to work with the administrator and teachers at each school. Once the program is in place and working, it is usually easy to find local businesses to fund the parties and recognition awards for future years.
Please help us improve the lives of the many children who struggle with school to obtain the help and incentive to try their best to succeed at school and later in life. In our county this could affect 100 or more kids every year. Since the donations will go to our 501 (c) (3) non-profit account, we will provide receipts for all donations received.
